Silka Cheras Hotel
Another day another side of Kuala Lumpur. Another last minute plan and booking. Cheras is a southeast suburb of KL and the plan was to catch up with an old friend living here but in central KL. Well a quick, simple search for cheap (<$50) 4 star KL hotels came up with a few options mostly around China Town, but also this hotel, so at least for the night it seemed like a pretty good choice.
The Silka hotel chain is small, with a handful of places in both Hong Kong and Malaysia. Although they’re budget orientated they present a very good product for the price.
The Silka Cheras is part of the Cheras Sentral Mall. We were told the mall was quite old and was refurbished in place of demolishing. It certainly looked new on the surface but old in its layout. The hotel is shoehorned into the mall, sometimes only an emergency fire egress separately the two. There was also a side entrance which allowed quick access between mall and hotel.
We had a standard room which was more than sufficiently large, no cramped room sizes here. Larger rooms were available, particularly those in a front section of the building that was circular, so each room would have been non-squared shaped. Bathroom ammenities were decent, room was clean although some fabrics were stained. Towels were missing upon arriving which was promptly fixed. UK and multi-socket power sockets along with all the usuals you’d expect from this type of property.
Our room faced the front of the property which runs along a major road with notorious traffic (even for KL) only made worse by the construction of a train line. Eventually this will provide good access in the long run but for now traffic diversions made accessing the hotel and mall difficult. In the distance, you can just make out the Petronas Twin Towers at KLCC.
Breakfast rates were a few dollars extra and unfortunately barely worth it. This was the main disappointment, the breakfast buffet was very limited, mostly Malay options that were of poor quality. Better off heading into the mall.
Like our previous stay at the Four Points Puchong, this hotel is good for the district.
