Solar Eclipse from Gili Islands

Somewhat luckily we were in Indonesia for the Solar Eclipse in March 2016. Unlucky in that we had nearly travelled further north and would have been better placed to witness it but the Gili Islands provided a rather unique viewing of it.

Since I was completed unprepared for this it turned out quite well. I had no filters or anything on me, literally having to buy an overpriced pair of sunglasses to drape over the lens with a plaster a minute before starting.

A jerry rigged solution

The result was quite effective with getting a clear black image with a crescent shaped sun. With the naked eye we noticed nearly no change, possibly a slight perceptual darkening but nothing compared to the camera.

After a couple hours of photographing at various random intervals I created a composite first by creating a sequence of the suns before compositing.
